At the Alberta Foundation for the Arts we see an Alberta where a vibrant arts community inspires creativity and innovation, embraced by all Albertans.
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts exists to encourage and support the arts as a significant contributor to quality of life in Alberta.
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts Act, 1991 establishes the AFA board and members as a provincial corporation, describes their responsibilities and accountabilities and mandates the board to support and contribute to the development and promotion of the arts in Alberta, and to collect, preserve and display works of art by Alberta artists.
The roles of and relationships between members of the AFA Board of Directors, the Minister and designated department representatives are clearly defined in their work to fulfill the AFA mandate.

The Alberta Foundation for the Arts is guided by bylaws for matters of procedure and transaction of business. The bylaws are subject to provisions of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Act, 1991.

The Alberta Foundation for the Arts develops a three-year Strategic Plan to help guide its annual operations and planning, within the context of the current Ministry Business Plan and the foundation's legislative mandate.
